Unprecedented partnership between DCNS and Gaumont for the film En solitaire
On the occasion of the shooting of the film En Solitaire, DCNS and Gaumont are announcing their partnership.
En Solitaire will tell the story of Yann Kermadec, who sees his dream come true when he replaces a star skipper at the last minute before the start of the Vendée Globe round-the-world non-stop single-handed yacht race. After a few days of racing, in the lead, he is forced to stop to repair his damaged rudder. This is going to disrupt his round-the-world voyage…
Directed by Christophe Offenstein, the film will feature François Cluzet, Virginie Efira and Guillaume Canet in the main roles. Filming will start on 1 October 2012 for a scheduled release in November 2013.
For this film, Gaumont is working in association with the DCNS Group, a reference in the maritime field. A world leader in naval defence and an innovative player in energy, DCNS believes that the sea is this planet’s future. The Group is inventing high-tech solutions to sustainably secure and develop its potential.
The partnership between DCNS and Gaumont is highly innovative. DCNS is at the heart of the film’s story. In addition, it will give the Group unprecedented exposure. The production has acquired the racing monohull DCNS which will be the principal setting of the adventure. Lastly, the heroes of En solitaire personify several aspects of the culture of DCNS, led by passion for the sea, transmission of knowledge, drive for excellence and solidarity.
Sidonie Dumas, Gaumont CEO, is pleased with “this partnership on an exceptional cinema project conceived around an extraordinary human adventure, bringing together an experienced artistic and technical team. This film, bearer of universal values such as adventure, friendship, family and transcending one’s limits, is aimed at a broad audience both in France and internationally”.
Christophe Lachnitt, DCNS communications SVP, stresses, “In addition to strong exposure of our brand, this partnership enables DCNS to be truly integrated into the film. It offers us an exceptional opportunity to develop the awareness of our business, one of France’s technological sectors of excellence, in order to attract talents to contribute to our growth plan. It also gives us the opportunity to promote the importance of the sea for the future of our planet, a belief that is at the heart of our corporate vision”.
