DCNS’ stern gland ensures pressure hull integrity whatever the depth and the rotating shaft speed.
Its consists of a monoblock glass/carbon ring mounted around a removable shaft. This design additioned to a thorough qualification on test bench thus guarantees low leakage and 50 000 hours of operational service before refit.

– Water tightness ensured with redundant mechanical packings (carbon/carbide rings), with an additional emergency braid system
– Water tightness enhanced with the external pressure therefore with depth
